Thiruvananthapuram: KSRTC which distributed salary for staffers in April after contingency and employees’ strike has once again requested the state government to allocate Rs 65 crore more as financial assistance. The state government had allocated Rs 20 crore to KSRTC the other day for meeting salary expenses.
KSRTC had to manage extra Rs 52 crore for the month of April to pay 18,000 staffers as the total requirement was Rs 76 crore. It had taken Rs 50 crore as OD (overdraft) and has to repay this amount too.
Though the government announced the relief a day earlier, it was only by May 21 evening that the money was handed over to KSRTC, after completing the required procedures. Even before receiving the money, KSRTC was able to pay salaries to drivers and conductors.
KSRTC has been knocking on every door possibly to raise funds amid a severe financial crisis.
If the government stays back from intervening, the salary distribution for May will get delayed like the previous month.
