Need more clarity before Census procedures begin, says Ramesh Chennithala
Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala said that Census activities should be stalled in the state until there is more clarity on the issue of NPR and NRC. NPR has been mixed with the Census and new questions have been added in Census questionnaire. Chennithala said that Census activities should be restarted only after all confusions prevailing over the issue are sorted out.
He also said that it was the Muslim league that led the joint protest against CAA in the state. The decision on joint protest was arrived at in order to prevent extremist elements from hijacking the protest. Oomman Chandy informed about the decision after holding talks with PK Kunhalikkutty.
Opposition leader alleged that it was the Chief Minister’s political interests that prompted them from stepping back from the joint protest. UDF does not want to play political games over CAA. The chief Minister is trying to divide the people. He further added that Census activities should be started in the state only after the Central Government makes some clarifications on CAA and NPR. "Except BJP, all parties in the state are on the same page regarding CAA in the state.”
