New Delhi: Senior leader Praful Patel has confirmed that the NCP will continue in LDF. Speaking to the media after a meeting with NCP leaders from Kerala at the residence of party supremo Sharad Pawar, Patel brushed off the rumours of NCP switching to UDF.
However he indicated that NCP would raise claims on the controversial Pala seat in the upcoming Assembly elections. NCP will contest in the 4 seats where it had contested in the previous election, he stated.
Pawar has entrusted Patel with the responsibility of conducting discussions with LDF leaders on the issue and resolving it amicably. Patel also confirmed that he would fly to Kerala and meet LDF leaders including Pinarayi Vijayan in this regard.
Meanwhile, CPM general secretary Sitharam Yechury paid an unexpected visit to Pawar amid the NCP leaders meeting. He was informed by Pawar that NCP will not give away the Pala seat stating a defeated party shouldn’t make a claim on it, hinting at Kerala Congress (M) who recently joined hands with the LDF.
However, NCP is also of the stance that if they are not given the Pala seat, another seat which is a bastion of LDF and the Rajya Sabha seat should be given to them.
