Kannur: It was around 10:45 AM on Friday, Navya, a staffer of Malabar Kitchen in Chirakkal, was on her way to enjoy the percussion music (Chenda Melam) happening as part of marble showroom’s inaugural. The crowd in front of the showroom was enjoying the music. Navya noticed that many of them were rushing to another spot after a lorry passed through the road. She understood that something wrong happened as people were seen screaming and weeping.

Navya followed the group and got to know that two persons were lying on the road with head injuries. The two were in a pool of blood and the onlookers had no clue on how to react to a road accident that happened in a fraction of second. It was almost sure that the persons were not alive. Later, when the ambulance arrived Navya realised that one of the accident victims is her own father Mahesh Babu (60). She was shocked and had an emotional breakdown. The onlookers tried to console and pacify her. Then came another cruel twist of fate, the other victim was her own son Agney(7).

The duo on the scooter was hit by the lorry and both succumbed to their injuries, leaving Navya in a tragic plight. According to the onlookers, negligence of the lorry driver caused the accident.

The district has been witnessing back to back road accidents. Many say the increase in vehicles in the district and negligence are the two major reasons behind these rampant accidents. Reports suggest more than 100 persons have died from vehicle accidents within the first five months of 2022. The number of deaths in May, as of now is more than 10. More people succumbed due to two-wheeler accidents.
