Kottayam: Amdist the controversies over Pala Bishop's Narcotic-Jihad remark, Minister VN Vasavan visited Imam Shamsuddin Mannani Ilavupala of Thazhathangadi here on Friday. The meeting was held at Thazhathangadi church for almost half an hour and the Minister explained to the Imam that his visit to the Pala Bishop was nothing official in any regard. Meanwhile, Thazhathangadi Imam responded that he is happy to get an opportunity to share the Muslim community's dissatisfaction over Pala Bishop's remark.
Minister Vasavan's meeting with the Pala Bishop following the latter’s controversial remarks and the subsequent responses had provoked Muslim organizations. Later, Thazhathangadi Imam came out against Minister Vasavan and a protest was organised by the Mahal Co-ordination Committee in Kottayam district.
On Friday, the minister visited the Imam with an aim to resolve the growing tension between the minister and the Muslim organisations.
After the minister visited the Bishop, Thazhathangadi Imam alleged that some forces are trying to disrupt the religious harmony in Kerala through social media and other means.
“Someone is working behind the scenes to consciously widen the gap between the two communities. Kerala needs peace and love, not war and hatred”, he added.
Earlier, Leader of Opposition VD Satheesan and KPCC President K Sudhakaran had met Thazhathangadi Imam and discussed the matter.
