Thiruvananthapuram: CPM leader Prakash Karat slammed the BJP in the backdrop of the controversial statement of Pala Bishop. He alleged that BJP considers the statement of the Bishop as a move to form a rift between the Muslim and Christian communities and to let out islamophobia. In an article published in Deshabhimani, Prakash Karat also urged the Catholic diocese to realise the motives of BJP and RSS.
The peaceful coexistence of the communities are under threat due to such declarations. Pala Bishop’s claim that the Jihadis are using drugs to harm the non-muslims create suspicions and doubts in the society, Prakash Karat said in the article.
Drug mafias and associates are working in Kerala too as in any part of the country. But it is inappropriate to accord such anti -social activities in the name of any religious or extremist groups. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had declared that there is no existing proof to find any such relation.
When the term ‘narcotics Jihad’ has been refuted in the political circles, BJP came forward by supporting the statement of Bishop and even asked the central government to institute a law against the activities of Jihadis. Thereby, BJP used it as an opportunity to instigate islamophobia in the state.
Prakash Karat accused BJP and RSS for plotting to bring out a clash between the different communities. He called out CPM to take up the responsibility in joining LDF and the democratic alliances to protect the secular notions of the state.
