Alappuzha: The authorities have started to remove the names of those who failed to link Aadhaar card to ration cards. In the first phase, those names in the AAY (yellow) card will be removed followed by those in the 'pink' category. The priority for linking Aadhaar will be given to those cards covered under the Food Security Act.
About 99 percent of yellow cardholders, 98 percent of pink cardholders, blue (96%) and white (95%) have linked their card to Aadhar. The names of those who have not linked will be removed after contacting the individuals through phone and verifying the reason. During inspection, it was found that many cardsholders have failed to remove the names of the deceased. It is also clear that Aadhaar is not linked because some people have more than one ration card.
Action will be taken against those who have failed to link Aadhaar despite being given several opportunities. The new rule aims at finding those who possess multiple cards. Further, most of the bedridden do not have Aadhaar. Their name will not be removed from the card.
The authorities also stated that names can be added even if removed. The person can approach the Public Distribution Department with Aadhaar to include their name in the ration card.
