Thiruvananthapuram: Nair Service Society (NSS) which commemorates 145th birthday of its founder Mannath Padmanabhan on January 2 has flayed the state government over their holiday policy and its double standards towards Mannam.
According to the media release by NSS, though the community is consistently demanding the government to consider Mannam Jayanthi as holiday like bank holiday, the government is not listening to it.
In a scathing attack, NSS general secretary G Sukumaran Nair in the release alleged that those showing neglect towards the community portray Mannam as a renaissance icon in conferences and events for their personal gains. “People will realize such double standards,” it states.
Notably, NSS has been pushing to give due consideration for Mannam Jayanthi. During the previous term of UDF government, Mannam Jayanthi was declared as a holiday. But it remains as a restricted holiday and the procedures for considering it as a holiday for all institutions inclduing banks have not yet taken.
NSS demands that intervention should come from the state government. However, the government maintained that there is limitation to consider it a bank holiday as there are 15 such holidays in a year.
