Actress attack case: Dileep not to file bail plea today

Kochi: Actor Dileep, who has been remanded in connection with the actress attack case, will not file his bail application before the High Court today. The delay in preparing the bail petition is said to be the reason for the postponement.

However, it is learned that filing of Dileep’s bail application is postponed in the wake of an anticipatory bail plea filed by Dileep’s friend and director Nadhirshah.

Nadhirshah’s plea will be taken up for hearing on Monday. It is learned that Dileep will move HC after knowing the court’s stand on Nadhirshah’s plea.

As the police prepares to file the charge sheet in the actress attack case as early as possible, this will be Dileep’s last chance to seek bail. Already, Dileep’s bail plea was rejected twice by the HC and once by Angamaly Magistrate Court.

Meanwhile, the investigation team is reportedly unhappy over the Director-General of Prosecution’s stand in the case. They are also not comfortable with the two-week deadline set for concluding the probe. The Prosecution yesterday informed the court that the investigation would be completed in two weeks.

The investigators are of the opinion that such a deadline was set without consulting them and that it will affect the preparation of the charge sheet. Police believe that the Prosecution could not convince the court about the progress made in the investigation.

The investigation team faced sharp criticism from the High Court on Wednesday. The Court had expressed displeasure over the manner the police was probing the case. Justice P Ubaid criticised the police for prolonging the investigation into the case, which is more than six months old.

The court made the observations while considering the anticipatory bail application moved by film Nadirshah.
