Thiruvananthapuram: The Crime Branch team investigating the death of director Nayana Surya suspects that a person was present in Nayana's house before her friends arrived and spotted her body late at night.
The autopsy report revealed that the death of Nayana happened before 5 pm on February 23, 2019. In a major turn of events, the investigation team reported that the call that came into Nayana’s phone at 9.40 pm on the same day was rejected.
All the other calls that came into her phone on this day were missed calls. The call that was rejected at 9.40 pm was from Nayana’s friend, who later arrived at her house to search for her.

Nayana’s last phone call was with her mother on February 22. Following this, she had not received any of the calls that came to her phone. Hence, the rejection of a particular call, especially after her time of death, has strengthened the suspicions of murder.
Though the death was found unnatural, no team of forensic and fingerprint experts visited the spot following the incident. The museum police had attempted to close the case, citing the lack of evidence. The reinvestigation of the case is currently progressing under Crime Branch SP Madhusoodanan.
