Thiruvananthapuram: In a major move to curb corruption, Motor Vehicle Department has decided to grant motor vehicle permits via online mode. With this, the vehicle owners can download permits from the Department of Motor Vehicles website without relying on intermediaries. Permits for autorickshaws, taxis, contract carriages, trucks and educational vehicles can be renewed online.

The users can log on to https://parivahan.gov.in and submit the fees before the existing permit expires. A copy of the registration certificate should also be uploaded. Further, vehicles with loans in due should include a letter from the financial institution. Fees could also be paid online and no postal charges are required.

The service will be available from December 24 onwards. Officials have been instructed that the application should be rejected only if there are irregularities in the documents. Additionally, Aadhaar-based online services will also be available. Vehicle ownership transfer, owner change of address, NOC, Duplicate RC book and other services can be availed online.

While applying online, the users should select 'Aadhaar Authentication'. Those who have registered their mobile number on the website should make sure that the number is identical to that linked to Aadhaar. If the numbers are different, the application will be rejected.
