MVD to stop parallel bus services as KSRTC incurs loss
Thiruvananthapuram: The Motor Vehicle Department has appealed the state transport commission to take action against illegal bus services parallel to KSRTC services in state. The department has recommended the action as requested by KSRTC executive director.
It was argued that KSRTC is incurring huge loss as parallel stage carrier services are illegally carried out in the state. The action was taken to stop government employees from hiring such vehicles for taking a daily ride together to the office.
In the letter to MVD, KSRTC pointed out that 'Bus on Demand' service was launched for government employees. If necessary, KSRTC can operate more services under BonD.
Apart from BonD, KSRTC is also operating bus services as requested by the public.
It is observed that private tourist buses and vehicles like travellers are operating services to Thiruvananthapuram and other district headquarters violating the permit rules. MVD department recommended that such services should not be carried out any longer.
The department also recommended that RTO and joint RTO in each district should be assigned to execute these guidelines. As the government offices started to function with 100 percent staff, majority of the employees are going to office by hiring vehicles.
Around 10 to 15 employees on the same route are hiring such private vehicles on a fixed daily charge. The employees stated that they are hiring vehicles at a high charge to reach office on time and safely amid the COVID crisis. Hence, they demanded that the services of private vehicles should not be restricted in this situation.
They also pointed out that the Chief Minister also announced that government staff should not be restricted from travelling.
Meanwhile, MVD officials also have expressed disappointment over the direction which will interrupt the commutation of employees.
