Thiruvananthapuram: The officials of the Kerala Motor Vehicle Department have served notices to Koduvally municipal councilor Karat Faisal and actress Amala Paul for evading road tax.
The notice issued by the officials at Kozhikode and Kochi has directed them to appear for hearing along with relevant documents within seven days.
The officials have detected that both have evaded tax worth lakhs by registering luxury vehicles in Puducherry using fake addresses.
It has been alleged that Faisal evaded tax worth Rs 10 lakh by registering his Mini Cooper at Puducherry .
Amala Paul registered her Benz S Class priced around Rs 1 crore 12 lakh at Pondicherry which resulted in tax evasion of Rs 20 lakh.
An investigation conducted by Mathrubhumi News found that actor Fahadh Fazil too evaded tax worth Rs 14 lakh by registering his Benz E Class in Puducherry using a fake address.
As per the rules, if a vehicle registered in other state is used in Kerala for more than one year, then it should be reregistered and 20 percent of the vehicle’s price should be paid as road tax. The officials of Motor Vehicles Department can seize the vehicle and levy fine if the vehicle is flouting norms.
Also by registration of vehicle using fake address can invite imprisonment up to seven years.
