MVD recommends adopting new registration series KL-99 for govt vehicles

Thiruvananthapuram: Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) has sought permission from the state government to adopt a new series of vehicle registration exclusively for government vehicles. The recommendation from MVD is under the consideration of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

According to MVD, government vehicles should have a uniform registration series (KL-99) to differentiate them from private vehicles. For this, MVD suggests adopting the series "KL-99-A" for vehicles used by state government offices, "KL-99-B" for central government offices and "KL-99-C" for Local Self Government (LSG) offices.

Additionally, MVD recommends adopting 'KL-99-D' for Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) in the state. However, such a move requires amending of Motor Vehicle Act.

On Monday, a meeting chaired by Transport Minister Antony Raju considered MVD's recommendation. However, the decision was taken to seek permission of Chief Minister.
