Palakkad: The Motor Vehicle Department is preparing precise norms to accelerate the transfer of compensation to the nominee of those who died in road accidents. The action was taken after it was found that the heirs of those who died before the expiry of the insurance policy have not received the sum insured.

According to the Motor Vehicle Department, the priority is to ensure that the rules are the same for all insurance companies. The important thing for the transfer of vehicle insurance is to submit some documents to the RTO office.

The details of the policyholder's demise should be reported to the motor insurance office as soon as possible. The primary thing to do at the RTO office is to change the registration documents of the vehicle in the name of the heir. For this, the heirs have to duly submit a filled-in copy of Form 31 and other relevant documents in the office. Measures are being taken to facilitate these procedures.
