Palakkad: Drivers of vehicles with lower speed limits will face action if they violate the norms related to the use of the left lane of four-lane and six-lane highways. The Motor Vehicle Department has announced that they will strictly implement this rule.
As part of the move, the district road safety council has begun measures on the Walayar-Vaniyampara national highway.
Goods carriers and big passenger vehicles including service buses, auto rickshaws and two-wheelers are vehicles with a lower speed limit. The vehicles should enter the right lane only while overtaking other vehicles. After overtaking, these vehicles should keep in the left lane.
The right lane is for vehicles like cars, jeeps and minivans with a higher speed limit. These vehicles should use the left lane if they are going slow.
Ahead of strictly implementing the rule, MVD will distribute leaflets to the people informing the same.
