Thiruvananthapuram: CPM state secretary MV Govindan has sent a legal notice to the 2017 diplomatic baggage gold smuggling case accused Swapna Suresh asking the latter to pay a compensation of Rs 1 crore.

The legal suit is over Swapna’s allegations against Govindan in the gold smuggling case.

According to Govindan, the allegations are baseless and defamatory. In his legal notice, he demanded an apology and withdrawal of the allegations. Otherwise, legal action will be initiated, the notice read.

Earlier, Swapna remarked that middleman Vijesh Pillai had approached her with an offer from MV Govindan of a hefty amount of Rs 30 crore to leave the country and settle anywhere else. According to Swapna, Vijesh told her that she would be killed if she is not ready to accept the offer.
