Kalpetta: A Special Investigation Team arrested former Village Officer Aji (52), who is an accused in the Muttil tree felling case. Aji was booked for allegedly aiding to chop and smuggle rosewood trees from the revenue pattaya land in Muttil South village. The government estimated a loss of Rs 8 crore through this.

Village Officer KK Aji and Special Village Officer KO Sindhu were listed as suspects in the case when the SIT found that they had permitted to transport the rosewood trees illegally from Muttil. After quashing the anticipatory bail plea filed by the suspect, the Supreme Court directed him to submit a petition only for regular bail.

The illegal felling of rosewood trees were carried out by misinterpreting the order released by the revenue department in 2020. Aji has been remanded by the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court in Sulthan Bathery.
