Kalpetta: The government is yet to announce a vigilance probe into the report of the Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (APCCF) demanding strict action against IFS officer NT Sajan, a conservator, in connection with the Muttil tree felling case. According to the APCCF report, NT Sajan conspired to engage in character assassination of a subordinate officer who took strong action in the tree felling case.

The vigilance is investigating whether there was a criminal conspiracy or a financial irregularity in the incident. However, the vigilance probe requires special order. Any other investigation taken will have no legal validity.

The team which is currently investigating the case also hasn’t initiated probe into the APCCF report. The report names Sajan and some other officials, but none of them have been summoned or questioned.

Opposition leader VD Satheesan had criticized the government for not announcing the probe even after several months and alleged that the government is trying to protect the accused.
