IUML freezes 'Haritha' state committee, seeks explanation from MSF leaders

The 'Haritha' leaders, reportedly, did not agree to compromise in the mediation lead by the IUML leaders.

Kozhikode: The IUML has frozen the state committee of 'Haritha', the women's wing of the All India Muslim Students Federation (MSF). Muslim League general secretary PMA Salam has informed the official decision . The 'Haritha' leaders have raised a complaint against MSF leaders over allegedly issuing a misogynist statement. According to reports, the IUML took action against the outfit after they did not agree to compromise in the mediation lead by the IUML leaders.

The party has also sought an explanation from MSF state president PK Navas, Malappuram district committee president Kabeer Muthuparamba, and general secretary VA Wahab against whom the complaint was made by the women leaders.

Salam had earlier pointed out that the complaint filed by the ‘Haritha’ in the Women's commission was a violation of the party discipline. MSF had also asked IUML to take action against 'Haritha'. However, ‘Haritha’ leaders said the party did not act upon their complaints. Following this, they approached the Women’s Commission.

Ten 'Haritha' leaders complained to the state Women's Commission against the 'misogynist' comments made by the MSF leaders.

In an MSF meeting convened in Kozhikode, PK Navas spoke to the 'Haritha' members in a derogatory manner saying that even prostitutes might have explanations.

The League had said that they will consider action over the complaint if 'Haritha' leaders withdraw the complaint. But ‘Haritha’ took a firm stand declaring that they will withdraw the complaint if the League takes necessary action.

Although Munavvar Ali Shihab held a meeting with the 'Haritha leaders', they decided to dismiss the committee after they were unwilling to compromise on the matter.

It is speculated that the party has decided to halt the activity of 'Haritha' at the state and district levels.

Currently, 'Haritha 'functions in Kozhikode, Malappuram, Kannur, Kasargod, Wayanad, and Palakkad districts. Adv. Fathima Thwahani, Malappuram District president, opined that it is not right to put the party on gunpoint over this matter. She also added that she will stand with the party. The Malappuram district committee is the only 'Haritha' District committee supporting the MSF state president, PK Navas.
