Muslim League considers fielding Kunhalikutty from Malappuram
Kozhikode: The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) is planning to field the party’s national treasurer P K Kunhalikutty in the Malappuram Loksabha seat left vacant following the demise of E Ahamed.
The party leadership has requested Kunhalikutty to enter national politics and is considering to appoint him as the National General Secretary as well. Kunhalikutty is yet to respond to the party’s request.
The name of IUML national General Secretary K M Khader Moideen is being actively considered for the post of party National President, a post held by E Ahamed. National Secretary from Delhi Khurram Hanif is likely to get the post of Treasurer.
IUML National Executive which will be held on February 25 is likely to take a final decision on the candidate.
Malappuram has been a stronghold of Muslim League so far. E Ahamed had created a record by obtaining a majority of 1.94 lakh votes from the constituency in the previous Parliament elections.
Kunhalikutty currently represents Vengara constituency in state Legislative Assembly.
