Murder to cover up another murder, police crack Kozhikode murder after 2 years
Thiruvananthapuram: The crime branch has unfolded the mystery of the incident in which different body parts were found in various places in Kozhikode. The identification of the person who was murdered led to another murder case.
It was two years ago that body parts of an unidentified person was found across different places in Kozhikode. On June 28, 2017, an arm was found near Kaithavalappu beach and days later, another arm was found near Chaliyam beach. On August 13, the skull was found next to Chaliyam beach. Subsequently, the police took up the investigation seriously.
The police prepared a sketch of the victim after they found his skull at the beach. This fuelled suspicion that the deceased was Vandoor native Ismail, who was an accused in various theft cases. This was confirmed after Ismail’s fingerprint, that was collected earlier, matched with the murdered person. But nobody filed a complaint claiming that Ismail was missing. The police had to find his mother and examine her DNA before confirming that the body was of Ismail.
Still there was not any information regarding why Ismail was killed. Meanwhile, the police found someone whom Ismail had owed money. Ismail had told him that he would settle his debt after he receives the payment for a murder that he was entrusted with.
It was a 'Kunjachan' from Mukkam who owed Ismail money for the murder. The victim was a woman who was a relative of 'Kunjachan'.
The police collected information of unnatural deaths that happened in Mukkam in the recent times. It led to the death of Jayavalli who was found hanging. The suspicion of the police was reciprocated by the neighbours of Jayavalli. But after her death, the family sold the house and settled somewhere else. The police attempted to track down the family after they found out that the man who lived in the house was Birju.
It took a long time for the police to track down Birju and his family. Soon they received information that he was living near Nilagiri in Tamil Nadu. But he escaped without getting caught when the police reached the place. Later he was caught from Mukkam.
Birju assigned Ismail to kill his mother as she was unwilling to lend money to him. Birju’s father was a land owner at Mukkam and he along with his brother wasted all of his father’s wealth. It was later that he asked his mother for more money, which she did not agree to give.
Birju assigned Ismail to murder his mother while he was away with his wife at Coimbatore. Ismail had established contact with the lady earlier by borrowing money. But Ismail did not commit the murder while Birju was away. The murder was committed with the help of Birju after he came back from Coimbatore. They also told the police that the death was a suicide.
After the murder, Birju refused to pay Ismail the full amount of money that was promised to him. Birju was apprehensive about whether he would reveal the details of the murder as he did not pay him.
One day Birju treated Ismail with liquor when he came asking for money. And later, while he was sleeping, Birju strangled him to death. And the next day, the body was cut into several pieces and disposed separately on different days. After this, he sold his house and settled in Tamil Nadu.
The details of the investigation were explained by crime branch ADGP Tomin Thachankary at a press conference. He also declared that the officers involved in the investigation will be rewarded for their effort.
