Thiruvananthapuram: Vadakara MP and Congress leader K Muraleedharan has been booked for making 'derogatory remarks' against Thiruvananthapuram Mayor Arya Rajendran. The police have registered the case against the MP under bailable charges. The mayor had filed a complaint at the Museum Police Station.

Meanwhile, the police also have sought legal advice on the matter and will subsequently decide whether Muraleedhran should be booked under more charges.

A day before, Muraleedhran sparked a controversy by saying that mayor Arya is beautiful, but her speech and behaviour are substandard. He also said that the corporation had seen many like Arya even before. CPM leaders alleged that it was a sexist remark. He also received flak on social media.

Earlier today, MP K Muraleedharan apologized for the remark. Muraleedharan said he regrets if the mayor was hurt by his remark. The MP then said that he meant the mayor was behaving immaturely. Though he regrets the comments, he would continue to criticise the mayor, he said.
