Munnar: A special project for making residential areas of Munnar waste-free has been scheduled to be launched on March 1. The project spearheaded by the panchayat will be executed with the help of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Nestle and Haritha Karma Sena (Green Action Force).

The project has been devised to collect both non-biodegradable and degradable waste from colonies that are densely populated. For collecting non-biodegradable waste, Haritha Karma Sena members will visit the localities twice in a month. The residents should segregate the waste into plastic, fabric, footwear, bag, umbrella, bottle and glass. It will be taken to the treatment plant in the panchayat in a waste collection vehicle.

Similarly, the residents can dump dry food waste in the bins placed in the locality on all days. The timing for dumping is 6:30 AM to 7:30 AM and it should be done in the presence of Haritha Karma Sena members. Notably, bins will be placed between a group of 100 families.
