Munnar land grab: Sub collector hands over report to AG
Kochi: Devikulam sub collector Renu Raj handed over to the Accountant General (AG) the report to be submitted in the court in connection with the land encroachment in Munnar panchayat. The AG will check legal errors and other mistakes in the report before submitting it in the High Court.
The panchayat continued illegal construction despite issuing a stop memo, which is a violation of the court verdict in 2010. So, this should be treated as contempt of court. The illegal construction was carried out in the presence of S. Rajendran MLA. They also blocked the revenue officials who tried to take action against the move.
Meanwhile, sub collector Renu Raj has not mentioned in the report the incident in which the MLA personally insulted her. However, she has mentioned the incident in the report submitted to the Revenue Principal Secretary.
The construction of a 60-room building complex of the Munnar panchayat led by Congress sparked a controversy. The making of the women industrial centre in old Munnar bus stand challenges the High Court order against construction on river banks. When the construction continued despite issuing stop memo, a team of revenue officials arrived to block the work on Friday.
S. Rajendran MLA and Munnar panchayat president R. Karuppasamy tried to block them and at that time the MLA made the controversial remark. The videos showing the MLA insulting the sub collector went viral on social media. Following this, he apologised. CPM district committee has sought explanation from the MLA in this regard, which they will examine on Monday.
