Seethathodu: The natives of Mundampara village live each day with the fear of landslides which have already killed two.

Most of the residents have already relocated from the area. The children fear to live in their houses where the tragedy took place.

The parents complain that the children refuse to even sleep with the fear and they keep forcing them to relocate.

Pezhumkadu native Mohanan said that his 17-year-old daughter kept waking up in her sleep in fear. She had witnessed the landlside occurred on the 15th of this month.

There have been many frequent landslides at various places nearby on 15th and 16th of August.

Around 15 people who were carrying out rescue operations nearly escaped a landslide where seconds before a landslide killed 2 people in this area.

The heavy rains and landslides created widespread destruction in Mundampara and Gurunathan Mannu areas. Due to this, the bus services have been stopped along this area.

There are almost 400 families living across Mundampara, Gurunathan Mannu and Kunnu areas and most of their lives have been badly affected by the landslides.

The most affected would be the students, who were forced to walk up to 10 kms to reach their schools following damage to roads and disruption to traffic.

It would need a greater force to rebuild the place including roads and other basic facilities. Many people have lost their farm lands which was their sole life support system.

The locals complain saying that Mundampara and Gurunathan Mannu have always been under ignored places of the Panchayat. And they experienced it even in the relief and rehabilitation programs carried out following the floods.

This area is among the major agricultural areas in Seethathodu panchayat. But this year’s rains have damaged majority of the crops.
