New Delhi: A new bench headed by Justice MR Shah will consider the petitions related to the Mullaperiyar dam. As part of this, a bench headed by Chief Justice MV Ramana asked the registry to list the petitions before the new bench.
The petitions are transferred to the new bench with the retirement of justice MV Khanwilkar.
On the other day, Save Kerala Brigade’s lawyer Wils Mathews requested the bench headed by the CJI to consider their plea on Mullaperiyar dam’s safety. Considering this request, the CJI asked the registry to list the pleas before the bench headed by justice MR Shah.
Meanwhile, the CJI didn’t mention any date to consider the pleas.
Earlier, the bench headed by justice Khanwilkar issued an order granting all powers related to the dam safety to the supervisory committee. The powers possessed by the National Dam Safety Authority as per Dam Safety Act were given to the supervisory committee.
Petitions moved by Joe Joseph, Ajay Bose, Save Kerala Brigade and Periyar Protection Movement are being considered by the Supreme Court.
