Thiruvananthapuram: The Opposition slammed the state government in the Kerala Assembly over the controversial tree felling order to strengthen baby dam in Mullaperiyar.

Opposition leader VD Satheesan wanted to know that if the minister was not aware of the order then why he is in his chair. Similarly, veteran leader of Congress Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan mocked that the order was issued at a faster pace than K-Rail.

Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu Water Resources Department’s Executive Engineer had requested to fell 23 trees near the baby dam. Principal Chief Conservator of Forest on November 5 issued an order granting permission to fell 15 trees. However, the government took note of that only by November 6. According to the reply given by Kerala Forest Minister A K Saseendran, the government promptly took action when the issue came to light. He also added that state government will not do anything against the interest of the state.
