Thiruvananthapuram: M P Veerendra Kumar, state president of the Janata Dal (United- Sharad Yadav faction), is the candidate of the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) for the one vacant Rajya Sabha seat from Kerala.
He will file nomination on Monday, Party state General Secretary Sheikh P Harris said. Veerendra Kumar will contest as an independent candidate.
The decision was taken at the JD (U-Sharad Yadav faction) Parliamentary Board meeting which was held on Saturday.
The Rajya Sabha seat from Kerala fell vacant after Veerendra Kumar resigned in December protesting against Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar’s decision to join hands with BJP.
The LDF decided to allot the Rajya Sabha seat to the JD (U) led by Veerendra Kumar on Friday.
