Pathanamthitta: Sasikumar Varma, representative of the Pandalam palace said that the palace approached high court and sought more police protection for Thiruvabharana procession (procession carrying sacred ornaments to adorn Lord Ayyappa for Makaravilakku festival)after receiving continuous threats. He also said that letters were received that read the Thiruvabharanam (sacred ornaments) wouldn’t return to palace as it is, after leaving the palace.
Tension was prevailing from the beginning concerning the safety of the ornament and it was discussed with the officials of the police. They assured the necessary security for the procession. However, we approached HC to make sure more security for the ornament and procession, said Sasikumar Varma.
Timely ruling by the HC was welcoming and if police carry out the direction accurately, Makaravilakku festival will go smoothly, added Varma.
On 7th January, Pandalam palace had approached HC pointing out the chances of robbery of Thiruvabharanam during the ceremonial procession.
Pathanamthitta district collector P B Nooh said that sufficient security will provided and if necessary more security will be added to that.
