Motion in favour of flat owners presented at Maradu municipality
Kochi: A motion was presented in support of the flat owners at Maradu municipality here on Tuesday. The motion presented by the opposition said the Supreme Court verdict to demolish the apartment complexes before September 20 is not acceptable.
However, the municipality directed to evict the flat dwellers within five days. A notice in this regard will be handed over soon. Demolition of the apartment complexes will make nearly 350 families homeless.
The motion is likely to be passed by the municipality as both the ruling party and opposition at the municipality have interest and sympathy towards the flat owners. Opposition demanded to file a review petition to overcome the SC verdict.
Members of the opposition demanded to find out a solution to the issue without evicting the flat owners. They further demanded that if the flat owners were to be evicted, they must be relocated with the help of state government. However, there is no clear idea on how to overcome the SC verdict.
Flat owners who reached the council meeting hall on Tuesday morning demanded intervention from the authorities. One group of owners demanded relaxation in the laws.
