Mothers left alone in Endosulfan villages after children’s death
Kasaragod: The Endosulfan affected villages witness the loneliness of mothers who have lost their children in the pesticide impact. Devaki and Lakshmi are only examples of the elderly mothers who are left alone in the region.
These mothers were concerned of who will take care of their children after their death. But their daughters Sheelabathi and Usha died recently, without waiting for more ordeals. Now the mothers need rehabilitation not money.
There are many other affected girls like Usha in the villages. The natives carry them on chairs and walk upto 4 km for getting treatment, when the disease turns critical. People kept worrying over the children who have only mothers to depend on, whereas they ignored the mothers who are left alone after the children’s death.
Sheelabathi from Santhiyadi in Beejithakatte in Kinningar died last Sunday and Usha from Pilikudlu in Swarga died on Thursday. Right from the beginning, the mothers have been watching their children suffer due to the diseases. They have also found the financial assistance credited into the account to be useless after the death of their daughters.
