Idukki: The amount of water released from the Mullaperiyar dam has increased due to a steady inflow in the reservoir. The increased release of water has caused flooding in the regions lying near the Periyar river bank.

The authorities are evacuating families from the –Vallakadavu- Vandiperiyar stretch. It is learnt that around 350 people from 85 families have to be evacuated from the area.

The authorities are urging the residents to act with immediate effect as the water level is rising. Sources claimed the necessary arrangements to shift and accommodate the residents are in place.
