More relaxations for Eid ul-Fitr, shops to remain open until 9 pm: CM

Pinarayi Vijayan added that if Eid ul-Fitr falls on Sunday, certain relaxations will be granted in the complete lockdown.

Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that as part of Eid ul- Fitr celebration, minor relaxations will be given in lockdown and night time restrictions in the state.

According to tradition, the faithful usually visit stores to purchase items after the new moon (Masa piravi) is seen. Night time regulation would impede this practice. Hence stores selling essential items will be allowed to remain open until 9 pm, depending on when the new moon is seen, he said.

The CM also added that if Eid ul-Fitr falls on Sunday, certain relaxations will be granted in the complete lockdown.

"Eid ul- Fitr is coming at a time of great struggle. However, it is not possible to conduct celebrations as usual in any part of the world. Muslim religious leaders have decided against mass participation to celebrate occasion in order to ensure safety. Eid ul- Fitr gives the message of tolerance and equality," the Chief Minister said.
