Thrissur: Strict restrictions will be placed on Thrissur Pooram which is being held only in a ritualistic manner without any public participation. Around 2000 police personnel will be deployed in and around the city and the Vadakkunnathan Temple.

All roads to the Thrissur Round will be closed and the entry will be restricted with pass. Only 50 persons will be allowed to attend the Pooram Vilambaram ritual. A special team will be deployed to conduct the fireworks and monitor the elephants. These decisions were taken in a meeting convened under District Collector S. Shanavas.

The sample fireworks will be completed with bursting of a single cracker, in a symbolic way.

The Thiruvambady Devaswom will complete the rituals on a single tusker on April 23, on the Pooram day in view of the surging Covid cases, the Collector informed.

Meanwhile, the Pooram exhibition was stopped after 18 people tested Covid positive in the stalls here.
