More Al Qaeda terrorists to be caught, says NIA in court
Kochi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) stated that more members of Al Qaeda are to be caught.
NIA’ s statement was mentioned in the application seeking custody of the terrorists nabbed from Kochi. NIA had arrested nine Al Qaeda terrorists, including 3 from Kochi, the other day. Mathrubhumi.com secured a copy of the transit order.
NIA stated in the court that more than 10 members of the gang have been identified. All the members of the gang spoke Bengali. They were planning to organise large scale attacks in various parts of the country. There are more unidentified members in the gang, NIA stated.
The central agency had registered a case on September 11 based on an intelligence report that Pakistan sponsored Al Qaeda was planning a series of blasts in various parts of the country. It was on the basis of this report that raids were held in Kochi and Bengal simultaneously.
The first accused in the case Murshid Hassan, second accused Mosaraff Hossain and sixth accused Yakkub Biswas were arrested from Kochi. The remaining six were arrested from Murshidabad in West Bengal.
Out of the three arrested from Kochi, two accused have been taken to Delhi on Sunday afternoon via a flight. It is reported that the remaining accused will also be taken to New Delhi on Sunday. NIA has been granted custody of the accused until 11 am on Tuesday.
