Sabarimala: The Ayyappa temple at Sabarimala opened on Tuesday at 5 pm for ‘Chithira Aattathirunal’ festival.
On Tuesday evening, head priest VK Jayaraj Potti initiated the rituals in the presence of Tantri Kandararu Maheswararu Mohanararu. The ‘Chithira Aatta Vishesham’ is on Wednesday.
The pilgrims were allowed to visit the shrine from early morning on Wednesday. Only those who pre-booked through the virtual queue will be permitted to the hilltop. The sanctum will close by 9 pm after rendering Harivarasanam.
The shrine will reopen next for the Mandalam- Makaravilakku festival which begins on November 15.
Meanwhile, the government has allotted Rs 224.97 crores for the maintenance of 60 roads ahead of the Mandalam season. Rs 210.52 crore has been set aside for 55 works scheduled on 253 kilometres of major roads and the remaining Rs 14. 45 crores will be utilised for the 40.30 kilometres stretch of 5 minor roads.
