Heavy rain in Attappadi; Narrow escape for man and son as car washes away


It has been raining heavily in the Attappadi gut for days but no significant rainfall in the Agali areas was reported.

Rain

Palakkad: As heavy rain lashed Attappadi ghat, a pickup van was washed away at Anamooli here on Tuesday. A man and his son who were travelling in the pickup van had a narrow escape after the vehicle was trapped in the floodwaters.

The incident took place around 4.30 pm on Tuesday. Puthanpurakkal Soman and his son managed to escape from the pickup van.

Rain

The pickup van was washed away by the rushing water while crossing a low-lying bridge (chappath). Soman and his son, who were in the van, escaped by grabbing the ropes thrown by the locals.

Attappadi ghat has been receiving heavy rain for a couple of days. But no rainfall was recorded at Agali. However, heavy rains are expected in Attappadi regions, ghats and forests.

As incessant rains lash the ghat, traffic is also interrupted. In many places, bridges are almost inundated.
