Artistes who performed Mohiniyattam at Anamangadu Kunninmel temple

Perinthalmanna: Mohiniyattam concert performed by the artistes above 50 years of age created history as it was the first of its kind in the Malappuram district. Their longing to dance was hurdled by the pandemic and the subsequent lockdown, and it finally ended when they performed together at the auditorium of Anamangadu Kunninmel temple.

The group of six women included Sakhi, Anjana, Shajina and Suma who are school teachers, and homemakers Bindhu and Sujatha. All of them except Shajina and Anjana have crossed 50 years and they learned Mohiniyattam through online and offline classes during the pandemic times. The programme had been directed by master Pramod Thripanachi by affixing five items together.

They performed ‘Ganesa Sthuthi’, ‘Cholkettu’, ‘Jathiswaram’, Keerthanam’ and ‘Mangalam’ of Mohiniyattam and many of them had already performed concerts years back.

They were learning Mohiniyattam since 2019 and the classes turned online with the spread of Covid. The offline classes were reinstated only after the Vijayadasami day in 2021.
