Mohanlal responds to charge sheet, claims ivory case tarnished his image
Kochi: Actor Mohanlal has responded on the charge sheet filed against him by the state forest department (wild life). The actor has denied the allegation raised against him and said it is `devoid of merit’ and ‘not legally sustainable’.
A charge sheet was filed against Mohanlal last month at the Perumbavoor court in the ivory possession case naming him as the first accused.
Perumbavoor native Paulose had submitted a writ petition seeking to cancel the ownership certificates issued for the ivory by the chief wildlife warden and had stated that no investigation is presently going on in the case. Mohanlal filed a counter affidavit when the court was hearing this plea in the court.
Mohanlal in his counter affidavit claimed that the possession of ivories is legal and that the charge sheet filed against him is devoid of any merit. He has also alleged that such cases have been filed against him by several persons in order to tarnish his image among the general public.
The charge sheet was filed 7 years after the income tax department seized ivories from his residence.
