Mohanlal possesses elephant tusks with legal permission: Forest Dept
Kochi: The forest department stated that actor Mohanlal has kept two pairs of elephant tusks in his possession after getting permission from the authorities. Principal Chief Conservator of Forest Surendra Kumar said in an affidavit that the government and the forest department granted him legal permission to possess the tusks.
The clarification was made on a petition filed by Aluva Udyogamandal native A. A. Paulose questioning the permission granted to Mohanlal for possessing elephant tusks. The forest department informed that the high court had accepted the same earlier and the order is final.
The department also rejected the allegation in the petition that the minister and the forest department did not take action against Mohanlal. The forest department had prepared the documents for taking the action, but further action could not be taken as the actor produced the permission letter. AG’s legal advice was sought in this regard.
The Income tax officials who raided Mohanlal’s residence at Thevara found the tusks in 2012. One pair of tusks were of the elephant owned by Thrissur Kuttanellur native P. N. Krishna Kumar and the other pair was bought by Tripunithura native K. Krishnakumar from Kochi royal family.
Both of them entrusted the tusks with Mohanlal to keep it safely and they have clarified the same with documents. Later, they did not demand the tusks back and it seems to have been gifted to Mohanlal, the affidavit noted.
