Thiruvananthapuram: Citizens can now report about damaged roads to contractors and officials concerned directly during the respective maintenance period. In this regard, contact numbers of contractors and concerned officials will be displayed on boards that will be placed on the ends of the road. Similarly, in the first phase, details of the roads are listed in the website of Public Works Department.
Public Works Minister PA Mohamed Riyas will inaugurate this at state-level along with Malayalam cine artist Jayasurya on Saturday.
Notably, as of now maintenance period of 2,514 roads are valid. To ensure that works are happening properly, a special supervisory team will be constituted. In this regard, a three-member committee has been assigned to study on how to go about it.
The engineers concerned should report situation of roads under them to chief engineers. For this, a new mechanism will be implemented so that engineers can even provide photos along with details to the chief engineers. Similarly, to qualitatively review the activities of PWD, a new team will be constituted, informed the minister.
It is learnt that the road maintenance activities get delayed due to rains. The activities will resume once weather is favourable. Rs 271.1 crores has been dispensed for maintenance activities.
