Mofiya faced harassment from husband; was forced to tattoo her body, claims classmate
Aluva: Jovin, a classmate of Mofiya Parveen who committed suicide after filing a domestic violence complaint, revealed that his friend was subjected to severe harassment at her husband's house. Jovin revealed that she was mentally and physically abused by her husband Suhail and his family members demanding dowry. He also revealed that Mofiya has shared these incidents with him.
“Initially there was no problem between Mofiya and her husband Suhail. Before marriage, Suhail told Mofiya and her family that he was working in Gulf. However, he later claimed that he had quit job after marriage and is looking forward to working in movies and was writing a movie script. Even after all this, Mofiya supported him,” he said.
“Mofiya told me that her husband spent all his time on his mobile phone and refused to go to work. He was not ready to talk to her or inquire about things. Later, this led to minor problems between them. She was also mentally and physically abused by him,” he added.
Jovin also claimed that Mofiya was forced to tattoo her body. But she was not interested in it. She was compelled to do many things which he cannot reveal, he added.
Further, there was an allegation that Suhail's parents had put pressure on Mofiya for dowry to buy a plot of land nearby. But since it had been a few days since marriage, Mofiya's family did not have any money at that time. So the family was spreading false claims in public about her mental stability.
“Mofiya had high hopes when she was called to the police station. If the CI had heard what she wanted to say, maybe Mofiya would have been in class with us today,'' Jovin added.
