Malappuram: T. P. Sulfath, BJP candidate from Wandoor, who gained national media attention, lost the LSG polls.

Sulfath, who contested in ward 6 of Wandoor panchayat could secure only 56 votes. UDF backed independent candidate Seenath won the polls by securing 961 votes. LDF backed independent candidate Ans Rajan came second with 650 votes.

National media had taken up the news of a minority candidate contesting the LSG polls from Malappuram representing BJP.

During campaigning, Sulfath had claimed that she was an avid fan of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She also said that strong decisions on matters including triple talaq had made her a supporter of the BJP and PM Modi.

UDF has secured Wandoor by winning 8 out of the 15 wards. LDF won the remaining 7 seats.
