Kerala is turning out to be an ideal market for mobile phones. The emergence of new phones featuring 5G, high-resolution cameras and others has prompted users to invest in smartphones for the past few years.
As per the latest reports, Kerala records 15-20 per cent sales growth each year. Around 2-2.5 lakh units of phones worth Rs 300-350 crore are being sold per month. However, these numbers would go even higher if we take into account the sales through online platforms. Interestingly, 95 per cent of sales are for smartphones.
Some sellers pointed out the growing tendency among users to own more than one phone at a time. Additionally, users are ready to constantly update their phones once smartphones with better features enter the market. Meanwhile, the number of people buying premium brand phones like iPhones and Samsung also has increased.
At the same time, Equated Monthly Installment (EMI) has become the preferred choice for many users when buying smartphones. Mobile Phone Retailers Association Of Kerala state president TM Fayas pointed out that 65 per cent of sales are through EMIs.
Meanwhile, 85 per cent of sales are phones ranging from Rs 6,000 to Rs 30,000.
