Mobile app developed to catch stray dogs with picture
Thrissur: A new system is going to be implemented for sterilizing stray dogs using a mobile application. The app has been developed to popularise the Animal Birth Control (ABC) programme and to ensure public participation. The public can provide information along with pictures through the mobile app ‘Suraksha’.
In the first phase, the app will be used in the eight districts where stray dogs are sterilized with the help of Kudumbashree. Later, this will be expanded to other districts with the help of NGOs. The public can start using the app from next month onwards.
The app has been developed in a way that enables the public to upload information directly if they spot a stray dog. People can inform the authorities through the app in case of stray dog menace. The details from catching the stray dog to releasing it can be recorded in the app.
People can know all the activities regarding Animal Birth Control (ABC) programme through the app and also record their complaints. Veterinary surgeon of District Veterinary Centre Dr. P. B. Giridas said that the app is introduced as part of popularising the ABC programme and to make its activities more transparent.
Kudumbashree programme manager Dr. L. Ravikumar said that the delay in exchanging information and remitting money in panchayats can be avoided if the app is introduced. ABC block coordinators also can record information through the app, he added.
