MLAs stage sit-in-protest at police headquarters
Thiruvananthapuram: Youth Congress activists led by MLAs Shafi Parambil and KS Sabarinadhan staged a sit-in-protest at police headquarters here on Friday. They staged the protest condemning brutal lathi-charge against the activists who had staged protest demanding minister KT Jaleel’s resignation on Thursday.
Police arrested and removed the Youth Congress activists and MLAs from the headquarters.
Over 10 Youth Congress members led by the MLAs barged into the police headquarters to protest over the lathi-charge. Though the protesters marched to the headquarters unexpectedly, police managed to block them. Following this, they staged a sit-in-protest here.
A scuffle broke out between the protesters and police following the protest. But, the MLAs continued to stage the sit-in-protest by raising the photos of the activists who were injured in the lathi-charge.
MLAs continued the protest seeking an explanation from the DGP over suppressing the protests with police force.
Top cops including city police commissioner requested the MLAs to end the protest. As they refused to refrain from the protest, police arrested them along with other protesters.
“It is not for the first time a protest is held in Kerala. But the protesters were brutally manhandled now. We demanded to meet the DGP. But nobody came to meet us and they tried to hit us with a police vehicle," MLA Shafi Parambil told Mathrubhumi News.
