Thiruvananthapuram: The body of the MTech student, who went missing on July 8, was recovered from the forest inside the Kerala University Karyavattom campus. Shyan Padmanabhan was a second year MTech student at College of Engineering Thiruvananthapuram. The preliminary investigation indicates suicide.
The body was recovered in a search operation conducted by the university staff after foul odor lingered in the atmosphere. The body was in state of decay. From a bag found near the body, an ID card, books and mobile phone were recovered which helped in identifying the deceased.
Shyan went missing since last Monday, July 8. In a search conducted, his phone was last located at Karyavattom campus. The CCTV footage also showed Shyan entering the campus. But he was nowhere to be found. Following this a committee was formed to investigate the missing.
Shyan, a Kozhikode Vadakara native, was staying with parents in Diamond District Valley apartment in Pangappara here. On Monday evening, he had left house for library. Family lodged a complaint at Kazhakkoottam station as Shyan didn’t return even late at night and his phone went off.
Search was conducted inside Karyavattom campus with dog squad. The investigation met with dead end after sniffer dogs stopped near the Hymavathi pond inside campus. But there was no indication of Shyan entering water. Search was conducted in the forest near the pond but in vain.
Now, the body was found 1 km from the forest area where search was conducted earlier. Kazhakkoottam police have reached the spot and are undertaking further procedures.
