Kochi: A minor girl, who ran away from her house, was intoxicated with drugs and raped by many persons. City police recorded the arrest of nine suspects in the case. Charges of rape have been imposed on 14 accused out of the total 21 suspects, while the remaining are charged with incitement to crime.
Key accused Kollam native Donald is on remand in connection with a similar case. The rape case surfaced during the investigation over the missing complaint received at Palappuram police station. After preparing 14 First Investigation Reports, the case has been handed over to the stations in Ernakulam, Kollam, Thrissur and Wayanad, from where the girl was raped.
Ernakulam central police nabbed Mattancherry native Joshy Thomas (40), Aluva- Choornikkara native KB Salam (49), Thrissur- Mannuthy native Ajith Kumar (24), and Pathanamthitta- Kurampala native Manoj Soman (34), while Palarivattom police arrested Udayamperoor native Girija (52), Puthenkurish native Achu (26), Vyttila native Nikhil Antony (36), and Kottayam- Kanakkary native Bijin Mathew (22).
Accused Donald befriended the girl when she reached Ernakulam KSRTC stand after leaving her house. He took her to a hotel in Vivekananda road and sexually assaulted her. Hotel owner Joshy and manager Ajith Kumar also raped her. The girl, who reached the KSRTC stand again was betrayed by another person, Manoj Soman, in the pretext of offering job. Manoj and KB Salam, who is a lodge owner in Chittoor, abused her and she was later handed over to Girija, who has close ties to sex rackets. Girija had taken the girl to the other accused, said police.
The police informed that the girl was abused from June 21 to August 4. The investigation team found the girl from a spot near a mall in Thiruvananthapuram. She revealed the information regarding rape only a month after staying at Nirbhaya home of the Child Welfare Committee. More arrests are expected in the case.
