The Agency for New and Renewable Energy Research and Technology (ANERT), the nodal agency of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, is about to offer 400 electric cars for village offices in Kerala at a monthly rent of Rs 500.
In this regard, ANERT has submitted a detailed report to the revenue department. The agreement with ANERT will be signed once the department and finance department reach a consensus over the offer.
Cost of an electric car is around Rs 20 lakh. To purchase the vehicle at that cost, a huge sum need to be spent. Following this, the idea of renting such vehicles surfaced. The vehicles will be rented for eight years. In a month, expenses to be borne by the revenue department will be Rs 500.
At first, idea was to provide scooters to village officers. However, officers had a lacklustre response to that. Presently, it has been planned to give one car to four village offices under a taluk. Each day they can use those vehicles in turns.
The revenue department should find the drivers for these vehicles. If that is difficult, then they can approach ANERT. The agency through which the vehicle is rented will get two percent commission. Notably, ANERT has already given electric vehicles for 20 government agencies.
